President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be present at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja today, June 21, 2025, for the West Africa Economic Summit (WAES).
Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, reportedly made this known in a statement.
Saturday marks the start of the Economic Summit’s second and last day. The 67th Ordinary Summit of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is set for Sunday, June 22, 2025, at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
The first-of-its-kind WAES project, which was organized by President Tinubu in his role as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, aims to strengthen regional economic integration. Improving subregional trade and investment cooperation is one of its main priorities.
As a vital basis for long-term peace, security, and prosperity in the region, the presidents of Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Senegal, The Gambia, Benin, Togo, and Guinea-Bissau have confirmed their attendance at the Economic Summit, which is anticipated to produce tangible results and deliverables to accelerate West Africa’s integration agenda.
The ECOWAS Member States’ Ministers of Finance, Trade, Infrastructure, and Foreign Affairs are among those attending the summit, along with representatives from regional economic organizations like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, the West African Monetary Agency (WAMA), the West African Monetary Institute (WAMI), the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID), the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA), and the World Bank.

Participants include policy experts, development partners, and executives from the private sector.
Mauritania and the Alliance of Sahelian States members were invited by Tinubu to show his support for regional collaboration and inclusive discourse.
A group of Special Envoys was sent by the President to deliver official invitations to heads of state and government throughout the region prior to the summit.
Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations, was part of the group led by Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
