Following Abdullahi Ganduje’s abrupt departure as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Buba Galadima, a close acquaintance of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has claimed that there is more to the political realignment than meets the eye.
Galadima told the Saturday Punch that he was not notified of Kwankwaso’s plans to defect to the APC. However, he was aware of a high-level meeting that purportedly sealed Ganduje’s destiny and maybe that of Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The claim has complicated the political arithmetic ahead of 2027, especially as Shettima has kept a low profile despite recent party shakeups.
When Saturday Punch contacted the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for comment, Ladipo Johnson, the party’s spokesperson, declined to make a clear remark.
“I am not aware of such a move, and I can’t speak further on it for now,” Johnson informed the audience.
Kwankwaso, the NNPP presidential contender in the 2023 election, has yet to openly confirm or refute the defection rumour.
