Ganiu Nafiu, a veteran Nollywood actor better known as Alapini, has expressed sorrow for supporting President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential campaign.
Alapini was said to have regretted the lack of acknowledgment and neglect following Tinubu’s presidential election victory in an interview on YouTube’s ‘Behind the Fame – African A-List TV’.
Alapini stated that the hope they had throughout the campaign season has already faded, emphasizing that he and many other veterans spent two months fighting for Tinubu, anticipating their dedication and exposure to be rewarded after the election.

He elaborated: “We were campaigning with joy thinking our messiah has arrived, because Tinubu is someone we have loved for many years, and he has been helpful to actors.” That is why we came out to help him for two months. “We spent two months advocating for him.

Alapini went on to say that despite the apparent presence of elderly actors at campaign events, neither Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, nor the All Progressives Congress acknowledged their work.

The actor also highlighted his colleague, Olaiya Igwe, who famously stripped naked on a beach to pray for Tinubu’s election, claiming that he has not been free of the curses placed on him.

Alapini chastised Seyi for centering his humanitarian activities in Northern Nigeria, implying that Yoruba villages have been neglected.

He went on to say, “Would Seyi claim that he didn’t see us the old folks while we were out campaigning?”

“Was Seyi that blind that he didn’t see our presence, senior actors? We numbered more over one hundred. We were all strolling around, young and old.

“We even campaigned in locations where some people could not do so.

“They didn’t give us anything.” People were cursing us in the comment areas when we were campaigning.

“My friend Olaiya Igwe, who stripped naked on the beach because of Tinubu.”

” He has yet to be rid of the curses that were cast on him.

“That Seyi is now running around the North, paying their hospital expenses. Aren’t there sick folks in Yorubaland as well? “How many hospitals has he visited in Yorubaland to pay bills for sick people?”
