Former Benue State Governor and prominent PDP politician Gabriel Suswam has warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) to be wary of the increasing momentum of a developing opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Suswam, speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, described the coalition as a formidable political force that is growing in strength as a result of broad unhappiness with the current administration’s economic policies.

“This is not the first time we have seen such political realignment. The hardship that Nigerians are facing under this administration is fostering togetherness across party lines. Suswam emphasized that everyone is affected, which is why the coalition will be a strong force in 2027.

He stated that if he were in the ruling APC, he would be “very worried.”

During a recent visit to Nasarawa State, President Bola Tinubu ridiculed the opposition alliance, referring to its members as “internally displaced politicians”—a remark interpreted as a swipe at defectors and disgruntled members of both the APC and other parties.

Suswam responded by cautioning against repeating the PDP’s 2015 mistake of underestimating the newly formed APC, which went on to defeat them in the polls.

“We committed the same error when APC was founded. “We ignored them, but they won the election,” Suswam remembered.

He also suggested that the ruling party pay attention to internal dissent, disclosing that certain APC members are quietly uniting with the new coalition in preparation for a political move.
