Hyacinth Alia, the Governor of Benue State, has blamed the state’s ongoing bloodshed on its geographic weakness, pointing accusations at infiltrators from neighboring regions and countries.
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday, the governor stated that the state’s proximity to Cameroon, Nasarawa, and Taraba has made it an easy target for marauding attacks.
“We share borders with Cameroon, Taraba, and Nasarawa,” he stated, noting that individuals who routinely assault the state enter across the frontiers.
The Benue State Governor went on to say, “They weren’t necessarily Nigerians who spoke Hausa or Fulani.

“When to reach the Nasarawa axis. This is where we face several obstacles. There have been a number of incidents in Nasarawa State, and there are channels via which these people enter whenever they are relocated from Benue. What we see now, if somebody labels it as a retaliation, we wouldn’t object.”
Alia stated that he spoke with his Nasarawa counterpart, Abdullahi Sule, and that he had intelligence that “terrorists were entering his state via Benue.”
“When I told him that the havoc had already been caused at Yelewata in Benue, then he said probably, they came and made a touchdown in Yelewata in Benue and were going back because he said one person was macheted in Nasarawa State.”
