In the early hours of Wednesday, troops from Operation Hadin Kai’s Maritime Component foiled an attempted entry by suspected Boko Haram terrorists on Naval Base Lake Chad.
According to reports, the base is located in Fish Dam, Baga, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to intelligence sources who spoke with Zagazola Makama, the militants initiated their attack around 1:00 a.m.
They targeted the newly acquired Swamp Boggeys purchased by the Borno State Government for waterway clearance operations in the Lake Chad region.
The attempted sabotage resulted in a heated exchange of fire between naval troops and the attackers.

Reinforcements from a nearby station in Baga were quickly deployed to the situation.
“Although the base repelled the incursion, the damage was limited. An ambulance and two other vehicles were destroyed, and some personnel were injured during the combat, according to one of the sources.
The shootout reportedly lasted over two hours, causing the terrorists to flee without obtaining access to the Swamp Boggeys, which remained unharmed.
As of the time of writing, the Air Component Command (ACC) had initiated additional aircraft operations to locate and neutralize the fleeing insurgents around Lake Chad’s waterways.
According to military officials, more information is being gathered and will be made available as the situation progresses.
