In the House of Representatives, the Labour Party (LP) Caucus has vehemently denounced the demolition of a property connected to Peter Obi’s family, the party’s presidential contender for 2023. Operatives believed to be working for the Lagos State Government are accused of bringing down the property.

The lawmakers characterized the episode as “deeply disturbing” and a danger to democratic ideals in a statement issued in Awka, Anambra State, and signed by Hon. Victor Afam Ogene, the leader of the LP Caucus. According to the group, the demolition was carried out in accordance with a court order that was obtained under dubious circumstances; the order was not issued in anyone’s name or shared with the impacted property owners.

“This action conveys a concerning message,” the caucus cautioned. “Common Nigerians are far more vulnerable if a well-known person like Mr. Obi can be treated in this manner.”

Additionally, the caucus connected the demolition to Peter Obi’s recent worries about targeted attacks against him and his companies after his audacious opposition leadership stance. Ogene stressed that political rivalry should never result in psychological, financial, or personal harm.

“Vennettas and resentment shouldn’t be fostered by politics.” “It should be about progress and service, not oppression,” Ogene said.

As he urged that Peter Obi’s and his family’s investments be safeguarded like those of any law-abiding Nigerian, he also emphasized Peter Obi’s legacy of honesty, patriotism, and compassion for the underprivileged.

Peter Obi responded to the incident by cautioning that unbridled anarchy damages Nigeria’s attractiveness to foreign investors. Obi stated, “Any society where lawlessness triumphs over the rule of law is not destined to be a haven for investors.” He continued by saying that the state’s inability to safeguard its citizens is further demonstrated by the persistent violations of human rights.

“What hope do ordinary Nigerians have if this level of lawlessness can happen to someone with a legitimate business and identity?” Obi asked as he ended, highlighting the predicament of regular Nigerians.
