Kate Henshaw, a Nollywood actress, has questioned the country’s continuing democratic rule if it fails to meet the requirements of its inhabitants.
According to reports, the film actor stated during an appearance on Channels Television’s special Democracy Day programme on Thursday that the country’s democratic experience has failed to make a substantial difference in the lives of regular individuals.
Kate Henshaw bemoaned the decline of the middle class, the deterioration of public infrastructure, and rising poverty rates, emphasizing that Nigerians are struggling to survive in the face of worsening socioeconomic situations.
Despite the terrible realities, Henshaw advised Nigerians not to give up on holding government officials accountable.
She stated, “People do not feel our democracy. Yes, we have had continuous democracy, but how does this affect the rest of society? What is this “trickle-down” effect? What influence does it have on average Nigerians’ lives?
“There is no middle class, and we can’t keep telling ourselves lies.” People are impoverished, healthcare is in disarray, and there is no safety.
“Everything around us is disintegrating, and Nigerians are barely holding on.
“The battles for essential things cannot be won in a single day. We cannot remain silent. We must always keep the government accountable.

“There must be justice, equity, and security for the people — for their lives and property.”
The actress went on to remark that she was hesitant to participate in the traditional congratulatory greetings for Democracy Day because there is nothing to say and nothing has been accomplished.
She went on to remark, “I’d have tweeted something like ‘Happy Democracy Day,’ but I had nothing to say. It’s simply this sense that something hasn’t truly materialized – that something is diminishing.
“But I still hold on to hope that we will have a country to live in, for our children — something they can build on.”
