On Tuesday, the PDP’s leadership met behind closed doors with senior IEC officials at the commission’s Abuja headquarters.
The PDP is preparing for its upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, and this meeting, which came after a brief news conference, is one of its strategic engagements. The conversations also coincide with internal party leadership and election plan meetings.
Although the meeting’s specifics were not made public, those with knowledge of the situation said that the party’s adherence to INEC rules, the party’s preparations for the next off-cycle elections, and worries about internal party procedures and organization were among the main topics on the agenda.
A number of PDP governors, prominent INEC officials, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC chairman, and Ambassador Umar Damagum, the PDP’s acting national chairman, were there.

The conference is seen as a component of larger consultations that are intended to improve cooperation between the election authority and political parties. It also emphasizes initiatives to guarantee early planning, adherence to regulations, and openness before to the general elections in 2027.
