Popular singer Ikechukwu Eric Ahiauzu, also known as Ric Hassani, has asserted that the trend of gospel performers transitioning to secular music is motivated by a desire for fulfillment rather than financial gain.
According to reports, Hassani stated in an interview with Hip TV that he began his music career in the church but switched when he realized it was not his calling.
He noted that many musicians who began their careers in the gospel genre later moved on to the secular music industry because they lacked the gift of ministration, and that many vocalists are born for the world.
He stated, “Gospel goes beyond singing. Being able to interpret God’s words through music requires a certain level of blessing. For example, Katty Perry would never transmit God’s words through music in the same manner that CeCe Winans does. CeCe’s ability to share the Holy Spirit through music is something I consider a blessing. Whitney Houston is blessed in a unique way.” So I don’t believe that everyone must attend church. Some of us were created for the world. I also have Christian tunes. I’m a really devout Christian. All of my CDs contain at least one gospel song. But that’s not my true calling. I intended to have an impact on the world in a unique way, through music. I am not going to do it in the same manner that Frank Edwards or Mercy Chinwo will. If I enter church music right now, I won’t fit in. It is not my thing.

“People are quitting Christian music in favor of secular music for reasons other than money. Everyone enjoys money, including creatives and those who have been given these things. But the true fulfillment comes from being able to do it and continue to do it. Including the wealthy Wizkids and Burnas… If it was truly for money, Davido has no business doing anything because he has all of the money he could ever need.
“So it isn’t really about money. The gratification that comes from being able to come up with a concept, record it, and make music goes beyond money. It outweighs any satisfaction money can provide.”
