Former Nigerian Vice President Namadi Sambo has disputed allegations that he has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress.
The rejoinder, which was made public in a press statement provided to Media Adviser Umar Sani, stated that the report regarding Sambo’s defection is a lie intended to deceive the people.
It further stated that the widely distributed photo of Sambo with Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, which was used to support the defection claim, is an old one.
According to the statement, the former Vice President is still a dedicated and committed member of the PDP and has no plans to join another political party.
Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, GCON, rebuts false claims of defection.
“My attention has been attracted to a widely circulated allegation claiming that His Excellency Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, GCON, former Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This assertion is completely untrue and without any validity.
“After receiving numerous calls and inquiries, I have decided to submit this formal reply on His Excellency’s family’s behalf. I categorically assert that the report is a lie, riddled with deception and intended to mislead the public.
“The photograph confirming this untruth, which shows His Excellency with Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, is not current. It was taken several years ago during the Governor’s condolence visit to His Excellency’s residence in Abuja following the death of his brother, the late Sani Sambo. The photograph is now being purposefully manipulated to fit a fabricated narrative.

Furthermore, His Excellency is slated to attend the launching of a 300-bed hospital in Kaduna on Thursday, June 19, 2025. This project, which he started while in government, demonstrates his unwavering devotion to public service and the development of Kaduna State. His invitation to see the completion of this legacy project and potentially make a few remarks should not be interpreted as a political endorsement or confirmation of any partisan change.
“To clarify, His Excellency, Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, remains a devoted and committed member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He does not intend to join any other political party. The defection narrative is merely a fiction of its creators’ imagination, designed to cause uncertainty and gain cheap political mileage.
“We urge the public and the media to disregard this misinformation and treat it with the contempt it deserves.”
