Bukola Saraki, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Reconciliation Committee, says additional defections are anticipated, even as efforts to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general election continue.
On Friday, the former Senate President stated this during an appearance on Arise TV’s ‘Prime Time’ programme.

Saraki also expressed concern about the ongoing controversy over who is the genuine National Secretary.
“PDP is likely to witness one or two more defections, and we should prepare for the possibility. We have not seen the worst of PDP defections. “We would most likely see one or two governors defect, as well as some senators,” he stated.
According to him, the timing of the crisis was advantageous since it allows the PDP time to recuperate and rebuild before the election season begins in full gear.
“For some of us, this early in the PDP is advantageous. We’re fortunate that this isn’t happening in late 2026, because we wouldn’t have had time to recuperate and regroup,” he said.
The former governor of Kwara State stated that despite the national crises, the PDP remained strong at the grassroots and throughout state organizations.
Saraki expressed optimism that the party was already preparing the groundwork for the 2027 elections, but cautioned that the stakes go beyond mere party survival.
