Why I Named the Ultramodern General Hospital After Senator Oluremi Tinubu
In an exclusive interview with Alaga 360, Engr. Dr. Comrade Valentine Oluwaseyi Buraimoh, the Executive Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, shared insights into the inspiration behind his latest project—a state-of-the-art general hospital named after Senator Oluremi Tinubu. The hospital, located in Festac Town, is not only a testament to his dedication to his community but also an acknowledgment of Senator Tinubu’s influence and legacy.
Alaga 360: Can we meet you, Sir?
Engr. Dr. Comrade Valentine Oluwaseyi Buraimoh (VOB): Thank you! I am Engr. Dr. Comrade Valentine Oluwaseyi Buraimoh, the Executive Chairman of Amuwo Odofin LGA. I am an Electrical Engineering graduate from Lagos State University (LASU), and I am a certified COREN member with an honorary doctorate degree. My professional background and commitment to public service have driven my passion for community development, particularly in the health sector.
The Vision for a World-Class Hospital
Alaga 360: We recently visited the newly constructed Senator Oluremi Tinubu Primary Health Care Mini General Hospital on 41 Road, Festac Town. It’s a remarkable edifice. How did you conceptualize such a significant project?
VOB: I’ve always believed in the saying, health is wealth, and I see health as a foundation for societal growth and stability. To me, investing in women’s and children’s healthcare is equivalent to investing in the very foundation of a nation. These groups often form the backbone of the family unit, so by improving their health, we’re fostering a more prosperous future for everyone.
When I took office, I made a clear commitment to quality healthcare for the people of Amuwo Odofin. It was my goal to establish a healthcare facility that could cater to the community with the highest standards of care and service. It’s thanks to God and the support of the community that we now have this ultramodern general hospital, complete with world-class facilities and technology, all without incurring any debt.
The Importance of Women’s and Children’s Health
Healthcare is a fundamental right that should be accessible to all, especially women and children, who often face unique health challenges. I wanted to ensure that this hospital could serve as a beacon of hope and support for them. The hospital has been equipped with the latest medical technology, trained staff, and resources to handle a wide array of medical conditions and treatments. In this way, we’re addressing the pressing healthcare needs of our community, ensuring everyone has a place to turn to for high-quality medical attention.
Why Senator Oluremi Tinubu?
Alaga 360: What inspired you to name the hospital after Senator Oluremi Tinubu, especially as she was a Senator and not yet the First Lady when the project began?
- VOB: Senator Oluremi Tinubu has long been a symbol of motherly compassion, strength, and leadership, far beyond her senatorial district. Her contributions to Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole are remarkable. Even before her role as the First Lady, she was already a strong advocate for various causes, particularly in the areas of women’s empowerment and community development. She embodies the values of care, dedication, and service to the people.
Naming this hospital after her is my way of honoring her legacy and showing my appreciation for her continuous efforts in advancing our society. It’s a well-deserved honor, and I deeply admire her for always being there for the people of Lagos, including us here in Amuwo Odofin. Senator Tinubu’s name on this hospital symbolizes a commitment to the well-being of our citizens and serves as an inspiration to us all.
A Debt-Free Project: Commitment to Fiscal Responsibility
One of the most remarkable aspects of this project is that it was completed without any borrowing. This was important to me because I believe in responsible financial management. It’s a testament to what can be achieved through careful planning, community support, and a focus on the greater good. We prioritized healthcare as a necessary investment in our community, and through partnerships and support, we managed to complete the project within budget, without compromising on quality.
The Hospital’s Impact on Amuwo Odofin LGA
Since opening its doors, the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Primary Health Care Mini General Hospital has made a significant impact. The facility offers a range of services, including maternal care, child healthcare, emergency services, and general medical consultations. Its establishment has improved healthcare accessibility for residents, reducing the need for long-distance travel for quality medical care. With this hospital, families in Amuwo Odofin can now access comprehensive care right within their community, strengthening the overall health infrastructure of the region.
Community Response and Support
The community’s response to the hospital has been overwhelmingly positive. People from all walks of life have expressed their gratitude for having such a facility nearby. Healthcare workers are also thrilled to work in an environment that is equipped with the best tools and resources, enabling them to provide excellent care to patients. It’s gratifying to see how this hospital has brought people together, fostering a spirit of unity and collective responsibility for our community’s well-being.
A Lasting Legacy and a Beacon of Hope
This hospital represents more than just a building; it’s a legacy that will serve generations to come. By naming it after Senator Oluremi Tinubu, I hope it serves as a constant reminder of the values she embodies—kindness, resilience, and dedication to the people. It’s my hope that this facility will continue to be a beacon of hope for our community, inspiring future leaders to invest in the health and welfare of the people they serve.
