The All Progressives Congress (APC) Rivers State House of Assembly Screening Committee has disqualified fifty-six candidates from the party’s upcoming primary poll.
Only 33 of the 98 candidates who were evaluated during the exercise between May 9 and 10 were approved by the committee, which was presided over by Muraine Ajibola.
According to the committee’s report dated May 10, the impacted candidates did not fulfill the requirements of the screening process.
Ajibola, Ishake Yamawe, the committee secretary, and another member, Danjuma Samuel, signed the report.
Among those disqualified were those candidates connected to the campaigns of former governor Tonye Cole and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Political tensions within the Rivers APC are anticipated to escalate in the run-up to the primaries.
Victor Oko-Jumbo, Sokari Goodboy, and Chijoke Ihunwo are a few prominent members of Fubara’s group who did not pass the screening.
