The Director, Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Sam Amadi, has said that the current political process cannot guarantee good governance.
Amadi said this while reflecting on conduct of primary elections in Nigeria during an interview on Arise Television.
But he said that does not mean good governance cannot emerge from time to time.
The process itself is flawed and often lacks structure or sequence, Amadi said, adding there is nothing consistently orderly about it.
“The current political process simply cannot logically ensure good governance. We need a sense of realism.
Democracy as an ideal requires a gradual and structured process of democratization that begins with getting the basics right.” It might take time but the foundation must be solid.
“If you have stable political parties you can identify and even predict who the delegates are,” he said.
