The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed June 20, 2026 as the date for the conduct of the bye-election for the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency seat in Kano State following the death of the lawmaker, Muhammad Danjuma who represented the constituency in April 2026.

This was disclosed by the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Abdu Zango, while briefing journalists in Kano on Wednesday.

A total of 143,675 registered voters have collected their Permanent Voter Cards in Warawa Local Government Area, while 162,445 voters have registered and collected their voter cards across 15 wards in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area, according to him.

“The commission will work closely with security agencies, especially the police to ensure adequate security during the election as security concerns are emerging in parts of the constituency,” Zango said.

“We are involving security agencies to ensure the peaceful and credible conduct of the election across the affected areas,” he said.

The INEC official also added that Kano continues to be the state with the highest number of completed voter registrations in the country.
