The Labour Party (LP) has picked a former council boss, Hon. Juliana Obetta Princess as its deputy governorship candidate for the impending Benue State governorship poll.
This was only 48 hours after the party had chosen its governorship candidate Mathias Byuan.

Hon Obetta, a grassroots politician, was a former executive chairman of Okpokwu LGA of the state, and has carved a career in community development and political mobilization.

She has a strong presence in grassroots politics and community engagement and served in president Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organization.

Addressing newsmen during the unveiling of the deputy governorship candidate at the party’s secretariat along Otukpo road in Makurdi, Byuan said the candidate was unanimously elected by party members in the state.

“We have collaborated extensively with party stakeholders in the state and today, they have all unanimously endorsed Mrs. Julie Obetta for the position of first female governorship candidate and by the grace of God, she will become the first female deputy governor of Benue State in 2027.

The governorship candidate said the choice of the deputy governorship candidate was part of the party’s program to have women in the governance in 2027.

Byuan promised that if given the mandate, the party would turn the state from civil service to industrial state.

Hon Obetta, reacting, said she was humbled by the honour of being the first female deputy governorship candidate of the party and promised to mobilise the large number of Benue women to vote for the party.
