Babachir Lawal, a former secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has stated that he has proof that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) primary election was manipulated.
According to reports, he made the assertion in an interview on the Channels Television program “Politics Today.”
Lawal says he watched the exercise from the field.
He asserted that the statements made by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s supporters were untrue, adding that a criminal would not own that he is a thief.
Remember that I served as the National Vice Chairman for the Northeast. I have proof because I was on the field throughout the drill.
“By attempting to deny what they did, Atiku’s people are lying.” All of us are people. We are aware of what they did.
“I was aware that the primary was rigged even as the results were being announced,” he stated.
Lawal, however, has denied allegations that he accepted money from Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, a candidate for president of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
According to reports, Lawal clarified this during an interview on Channels TV in response to claims made by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s supporters that Hayatu-Deen had impacted his finances.
He maintains that he did not receive any money from the ADC candidate and that the charge is unfounded.
He insisted that he could simply contact President Bola Tinubu if he ever needed financial support rather than looking for help elsewhere.
In addition, the former SGF questioned the veracity of the accusation and demanded evidence that he and Hayatu-Deen had ever exchanged money. He claimed that there was no proof to back up the assertion.
Lawal claimed that his support for Hayatu-Deen had nothing to do with money but rather with the candidate’s leadership potential. He claimed that Hayatu-Deen’s expertise and competence informed his opinion.
“I’ll call President Tinubu and get money before I get home if I need it now,” he declared.
“Hayatu-Deen cannot donate any money. Identify the people present when he gave me the money. He may still have not delivered it. I’ll head over and get it. I assure you that it has nothing to do with money. Hayatu-Deen was a man providing his expertise and services. Atiku lacks the competence of Hayatu-Deen. They are unable to be in the same boat together.
