DEMOCRACY UNDER SIEGE: AMUWO ODOFIN CONSTITUENCY 02 IN THE MIRROR.
The attention of concerned Progressives across Amuwo Odofin Constituency II has been drawn to the recent spectacle orchestrated by a handful of individuals parading themselves as protesters. Far from representing the genuine aspirations of the people, this gathering appeared to be a calculated attempt to distort public perception, manufacture controversy, and undermine the democratic choices freely made by party faithful.
What the public witnessed was not a spontaneous expression of grassroots dissatisfaction; rather, it bore all the hallmarks of a carefully scripted political performance, lacking both authenticity and credibility.
It is deeply troubling that the shadow of Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa continues to loom over these developments unnecessary display of incompetency. What’s the need for calling on the Rt. Hon. Speaker Mudashiru Obasa to come to their aid to install David Doherty on a mandate he never got. Someone, who not only lost his home, ward, to the man of the people. Doherty was not only flatly defeated but fainted maybe due to his usual consumption of substances.
One is compelled to ask: by what political arithmetic does a mole without pedigree suddenly seek to supersede a legislator whose record of service spans two successful terms? By what measure does political convenience outweigh years of loyalty, legislative accomplishments, grassroots engagement, and unwavering commitment to the people? Hausa, Ibos, and the people of the SS extractions?
Hon. Rauf Olawale Age-Sulaiman stands today not merely as a candidate, but as a testament to consistency, dedication, competence, and productive representation. Through years of service, he has earned the trust of community leaders, party stakeholders, and ordinary constituents whose lives have been positively impacted by his representation.
Unlike those whose political visibility emerges only during election cycles, Hon. Age-Sulaiman’s connection with the people was built through sustained engagement, accessibility, sacrifice, and an enduring commitment to the development of Amuwo Odofin Constituency II.
At a time when our great party should be consolidating its strength and preparing for the enormous task of delivering overwhelming victories for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all APC candidates, it is unfortunate that energy is being diverted toward internal distractions that serve neither the party nor the people.
History remains an impartial witness.
Records remain stubbornly factual.
The outcome of the APC primary election in Amuwo Odofin Constituency II was clear, decisive, and unmistakable. Party members spoke through the ballot, and their verdict was emphatic. The overwhelming support expressed for Hon. Rauf Olawale Age-Sulaiman cannot and should not be rewritten by political revisionism.
Electoral realities cannot be altered by propaganda.
Grassroots acceptance cannot be manufactured through orchestrated demonstrations.
The confidence reposed in Hon. Age-Sulaiman by the people is rooted in years of visible performance and cannot be diminished by temporary political theatrics.
The voices of committed party members cannot be silenced by orchestrated demonstrations a third party who has nothing at stake in our constituency but political malignment.
We hereby call on our protesters to desist from political mallingering and return home so that they can be part of the crusade to take Amuwo-Odofin federal constituency back to the expected position rather than allowing some individuals sponsoring all actions capable of creating division within our constituency
Equally revealing was the apparent lack of preparation displayed during the so-called protest. Observers noted that banners displayed imagery associated with the House of Representatives rather than the Lagos State House of Assembly—the very institution around which their grievances purportedly revolved.
Such an error may appear minor, yet it speaks volumes.
It suggests haste rather than preparation.
Confusion rather than conviction.
Expediency rather than principle.
The people of Amuwo Odofin Constituency II are politically sophisticated, vigilant, and fully capable of distinguishing genuine leadership from political contrivance and this attest to their ability to pursue their mandate with integrity.
This struggle transcends the ambition of any individual or an interest external to the constituency
