The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State, Adamu Usman Ahmed, has vowed to sabotage the plan of Governor Bala Mohammed to hand over power to his preferred successor.
Ahmed said he believes the opposition stands a good chance of winning because no governor in the state has successfully installed a successor.
The governorship candidate was reported to have said this while addressing journalists in Abuja.
Bauchi voters have a history of making independent political choices and are unlikely to support any attempt to impose a new governor, he said.
“The Bauchi people are always wise.
“If you look at the history of the state, no governor has ever successfully installed a successor. That’s why I think the opposition has a good chance of winning,” he said.
“The political environment ahead of this election is different from previous contests because more parties are participating,” Ahmed said.
“Politics has changed its game. This is not like in the past when there were majorly two parties contesting elections, but this time around, there are about seven or eight parties contesting. “Having many candidates in the race gives us an advantage,” he said.
The PDP candidate also promised to tackle unemployment if elected governor.
His administration’s top priority will be to create jobs, according to him.
“Our main focus will be on job creation,” he said, adding that his government would strive to create opportunities for young people and improve livelihoods across the state.
