The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said that the only way to build a prosperous nation is to raise a new generation of responsible and visionary leaders who are committed to selfless service and good governance.
Obi made this known in a post on his Facebook page on Sunday after his engagement with students of Madonna University, Okija, Anambra state.
The former Anambra State governor said the interactive session afforded him the opportunity to interact with students who asked questions that summed up the frustrations of many young Nigerians over poor governance and widespread corruption, which had denied them opportunities to achieve their full potential.
Despite the challenges, Obi said he was heartened by the students’ optimism and desire to contribute to nation building.
He said leadership remains the greatest determinant of a nation’s progress and that effective leaders must have character, competence, capacity and compassion as well as the willingness to make sacrifices for the good of the people.
“Nigeria’s future is hinged on leaders who are committed to saving lives, investing in education, creating opportunities and building strong institutions.
We can build the Nigeria of our dreams that is Possible, Obi said, as we bring up a new generation of responsible and visionary leaders together.
