The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has accused FCT Minister Nyesom Wike of exercising excessive influence over the affairs of the state.
The party’s publicity secretary, Chizzy Enyi, made the accusation while reacting to comments Wike made during an interview with TVC News.
Wike had discussed the ongoing reconciliation efforts involving Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the political group he previously fell out with.
According to Wike, Fubara had demonstrated sincerity by complying with requests made during the reconciliation process.
He cited the governor’s submission of the list of members of the All Progressives Congress campaign council before travelling to the United States.
Enyi, however, said Wike’s comments suggested that the former governor was acting as though he remained the chief executive of Rivers State.
The ADC spokesman alleged that Wike’s interest in Rivers was primarily about the state’s resources.
He questioned why the FCT minister continued to speak about decisions and actions involving the Rivers State government.
Enyi said Wike’s comments gave the impression that the minister still considered himself responsible for directing affairs in the state.
He further stated that the situation would not continue indefinitely.
The controversy is linked to the political relationship between Wike and Fubara, which has attracted considerable attention since disagreements emerged between the two politicians.

Efforts have since been made to reconcile the different political camps and reduce tensions.
Wike has said Fubara’s recent actions demonstrate his commitment to reconciliation.
The ADC, however, has interpreted the situation differently and continues to criticise Wike’s influence in Rivers State.
Enyi’s comments represent the ADC’s position, while Wike’s remarks were made in the context of his assessment of the reconciliation process.
No direct response from Wike to Enyi’s latest allegation was included in the report.
The exchange highlights the continuing political debate over the relationship between the FCT minister, the Rivers State government and the competing political interests in the state.
