Basketmouth Declares: “I’m Staying in Comedy, Not Switching to Movies”

Ghetto Love Story, Basketmouth’s first feature film, has had a huge impact on the film industry. Basketmouth is also known as Bright Okpocha.
The comedian stressed in an interview with Saturday Beats that he is more passionate about making movies than anything else.
According to Basketmouth, their career path was predetermined from the beginning because they loved comedy and knew they could convey stories on TV before moving on to movies.
With the release of his first feature film, Ghetto Love Story, comedian Bright Okpocha—who is best known by his stage moniker Basketmouth—has made a big entry into the motion picture business.

In a recent interview with Saturday Beats, the renowned comedian expressed his love for filmmaking, saying it is more important than anything else.
He said, “In actual fact, it’s been a plan all along. I knew I was going to end up in the movies. So when I started comedy, I went to TV, and all along, I knew I was going to end up in movies. I enjoy making movies. So, transitioning was easy because it was already in the plan. I can make it because, by default, I’m already a storyteller based on the fact that I do comedy.”
He also made it clear that he wasn’t motivated by money to produce the movie.

“I made this film to create art and quality, not to gain money. By God’s grace, though, I will reimburse the money if it does, and if not, I will push myself with this effort.

Additionally, Okpocha revealed that he faced significant financial challenges throughout the manufacturing, with costs rising by 20% as a result of market fluctuations. “I’d rather challenge myself to create something exceptional,” he said, underscoring his dedication to upholding high standards.
Although he has other movies planned, he assured his audience that humor will always be his top priority.

“I’m going on tour next year. I’m going to perform here in Nigeria in addition to my tours in the US and the UK,” he said.
