Isbae U: People Turned Against Me During 2022 Controversy
Popular Nigerian content creator Adebayo Ridwan, better known as Isbae U, has reflected on the backlash he experienced during a controversy in 2022.
Isbae U said the period was one of the most challenging moments of his career and revealed that he became uncertain about whether he would be able to continue working in the entertainment industry.
Speaking during an interview with Morayo Afolabi Brown, the content creator said the intensity of the criticism surprised him because some people who had previously supported his work became critical.
He said the experience demonstrated how quickly public opinion could change when a celebrity becomes involved in controversy.
Isbae U recalled turning to fellow skit maker Mr Macaroni for advice.
He said he asked him a direct question about whether his career was coming to an end because he did not know what the future would look like after the backlash.
“2022 was a tough time for me. It was the first time I was going through something like that, and then I asked Mr Macaroni, ‘Is this the end?’” he said.
The content creator explained that people who had previously commented positively on his content started making negative remarks.
He said the experience made him understand that members of the public have different opinions and can change their views about celebrities.
Rather than continuing to dwell on the criticism, Isbae U said he chose to focus on self-improvement.

He concentrated on becoming better at his craft, improving himself and continuing to provide entertainment for his audience.
Another change he made was to limit how much information about his personal life he shared online.
He said he stepped away from posting extensively about his private affairs while maintaining his entertainment content.
“I stepped back from posting anything about my life and I kept giving them entertainment,” he said.
Isbae U also explained the idea behind his interview programme, Curiosity Made Me Ask.
According to him, the show is designed to give viewers an opportunity to see another side of celebrities that they may not normally encounter.
The content creator said he would like to interview U.S. President Donald Trump on the programme.
His recollection of the 2022 controversy comes as he continues to build his career in Nigeria’s rapidly growing digital entertainment industry.
