Davido Reveals How ‘Dami Duro’ Beat Was Created After Sexy Steel’s Remark

Singer Davido has confirmed that the beat used for his hit song “Dami Duro” was initially created for fellow artiste Sexy Steel.

The revelation came during an interview featured in an Afrobeat documentary, following a claim by Sexy Steel that he owned the song’s original beat.

According to Davido, the instrumental was created in his Lagos studio in 2011 while he was working on music for Sexy Steel.

Davido explained that producer Shizzy later became involved in the production, contributing keys and other elements to the developing beat.

However, after hearing the instrumental’s potential, Davido decided to keep it and use it for his own recording.

The beat eventually became the foundation of “Dami Duro,” a song that became a major hit and helped introduce Davido to a wider audience.

Sexy Steel has since raised the issue of the instrumental’s origins in a video, claiming ownership of the beat.

Davido’s explanation provides context to the claim by acknowledging that the beat was originally developed for Sexy Steel before its direction changed.

“Dami Duro” subsequently became one of the notable Afrobeats records of the early 2010s and an important song in Davido’s early career.
