The Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Ahmed Sanusi, has revealed how eight suspected members of a one-chance robbery syndicate allegedly robbed an officer’s wife in Abuja.
Addressing journalists during a press conference at the command’s headquarters on Tuesday, Sanusi said the victim boarded a taxi at the AYA Roundabout but was picked up by members of the criminal syndicate.
According to the police commissioner, the suspects dispossessed the woman of her mobile phone and transferred all the money in her account to their own account before dropping her off.
He said that upon receiving the report, he directed the command’s tracking unit to launch a detailed investigation into the incident.
Sanusi explained that with the aid of digital forensic technology, the police reconstructed the suspects’ operations, traced the electronic transactions and tracked the victim’s mobile phone, leading to the arrest of eight suspects.

He identified the suspects as Yunusa Sani, Ismail Mohammed, Abubakar Usman, Haruna Musa, Abdulrazaq Mohammed, Isah Abdulrahman, Isa Abdullahi and Aliyu Shuaibu.
The police commissioner disclosed that further investigations led to the recovery of 21 mobile phones and three laptops, including the victim’s device.
He added that investigations revealed that one of the suspects, Haruna Musa, specialised in altering the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers of stolen devices before reselling them to evade detection.
Sanusi further disclosed that the police had tracked and identified individuals suspected of receiving the stolen properties.
He said the suspects and recovered exhibits remained in custody and would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
It was reported that several other suspects were also paraded by the FCT Police Command for various offences, particularly armed robbery in the nation’s capital.
The commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with the police and other security agencies, and promptly report suspicious persons, movements and activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency contact lines.
