Ufoma McDermott, a Nollywood actress, has revealed how her fight with renal disease was linked to long-term opioid misuse.
The actress said this during a recent interview with prominent media personality Chude Jideonwo.
Speaking on her 12-year fight with renal disease, the actress encouraged the audience to prioritize their health.
While explaining that her condition was a result of long-term opioid misuse, McDermott stated, “I really wish everyone understood the importance of health.” My brother was diagnosed with stage 4 renal disease late in life, and he immediately began dialysis and experienced problems.
“I was diagnosed early, so I’ve been on medication for about 12 years. When my brother died, I rushed to see my cardiologist. My parents were worried, wondering whether this was inherited. We had to trace the renal ailment, which turned out to be caused by drug misuse.
“I grew up with migraines, headaches, and eyeaches, and I never wore glasses since they made me appear geeky. I’d take painkillers to treat my migraine. I took severe medications, not regular pills, since I wanted the discomfort to go gone.”
