Prince Adewole Adebayo’s criticism of the NELFUND student loan scheme is nothing but political grandstanding designed to mislead struggling Nigerian students and their parents.
It is easy to sit comfortably and make emotional speeches about “free education from kindergarten to tertiary level,” but responsible leadership is about practical solutions, not empty populist rhetoric. Nigerians deserve honesty, not fantasies packaged for cheap political applause.
The reality today is that thousands of brilliant students would have abandoned their education completely without the intervention of the NELFUND initiative introduced under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. While critics are busy talking, this administration is taking concrete action to ensure children from poor and middle-class families remain in school.
Even advanced nations of the world operate student loan systems alongside scholarships and educational grants because governance requires sustainability, planning, and economic responsibility. What Nigeria needs now is constructive engagement to improve the scheme — not reckless condemnation from politicians seeking relevance.
Those attacking NELFUND should tell Nigerians where the trillions required for completely free education will come from without collapsing the economy. Leadership is not about noise-making; it is about courage, realism, and workable policies.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is confronting decades of structural decay with bold reforms, and no amount of propaganda will stop the Renewed Hope mission from repositioning Nigeria for future generations.
