Air Peace has suspended a scheduled flight from Warri to Lagos following a bird strike involving one of its aircraft during landing at the Osubi Airport in Delta State.
The airline announced the development in a statement on Friday by its spokesperson, Osifo-Whiskey Efe, stating that the aircraft was immediately grounded for safety inspections after the incident.
The airline said engineers did initial checks when the plane landed and decided the landing gear required further checks.
“Preliminary inspections showed that the landing gear requires further checks, and the aircraft has been grounded in accordance with standard aviation safety procedures,” the statement said.
The development saw Air Peace announce the cancellation of the aircraft’s scheduled return flight from Osubi to Lagos.
The carrier said arrangements have been made to mitigate the impact on affected passengers including hotel accommodation in Osubi pending the completion of their travel plans.
Air Peace expressed regret for the disruption and apologised to passengers for the inconvenience caused by the cancellation.
Reiterating its commitment to passenger safety, the airline said operational decisions are always guided by strict adherence to safety regulations and industry standards.
“Safety remains our foremost priority at Air Peace,” the airline said.
“Although these types of disruptions are unfortunate, we make every operational decision through the lens of our uncompromising commitment to the highest standards of safety and regulatory compliance.”
The airline also thanked passengers for their patience, understanding and cooperation and promised to share further information as developments unfold.
