Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has cautioned politicians against engaging in violent acts during the campaign season.
He gave the warning in his third anniversary speech to the people of Akwa Ibom state on Friday, it was reported.
He said that no one life is worth taking for the sake of another man’s political ambitions.
“As the political season begins, I call on our people to engage in the politics of ideas and not one of name-calling or character assassination. “We have kept the peace in our State because no one life is worth shedding for any one’s political ambition,” he said.
The governor urged the people to embrace sportsmanship in politics, emphasising that politics come and go, but the spirit and bond of brotherhood will remain unbroken.
Eno said that he has kept his promise and word by saying that the political slogan now is Akwa Ibom United, assuring that the state will remain united, secure in its belief that an injury to one is an injury to all.
“Politics, as I said in my inaugural address, will come and go but the spirit and bond of our brotherhood will not be broken by the temporary passion of partisan politics. In the game of politics, let us imbibe the spirit of real sportsmanship.
“I promised you that I would be the Governor for all Akwaibomites and so far, by the Grace of God, I have been able to keep my word on that score. Today, our political slogan is Akwa Ibom United and as we go to the polls next year, we will stay united, secure in our belief that an injury to one is an injury to all.
“I came as a peacemaker and I will leave office in 2031, by the Grace of God leave office as a peacemaker. I will continue to pastor Akwa Ibom State with the fear of God and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. So help me God!
