Saleh Mamman, the former Minister of Power, was detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after being found guilty and sentenced by the Federal High Court in Abuja of financial embezzlement while in office.
Mamman was taken into custody at around 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, according to EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede.
He and two people who were allegedly protecting him from the authorities were reportedly captured in Kaduna.
The anti-graft bureau is also looking into the home where the arrest occurred.
From August 2019 to September 2021, he was the Minister of Power.
On August 21, 2019, President Muhammadu Buhari swore him in following his nomination and Senate confirmation.
Buhari fired Mamman on September 1, 2021, and Abubakar Aliyu, the Minister of State for Works and Housing, took his position.
The Federal High Court of Nigeria found Saleh guilty of fraud and money laundering involving more than 33.8 billion naira ($24.7 million) in May 2026 and sentenced him to 75 years in jail.
