Oba Olubunmi Isioye-Dada, the Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, has died.

A palace source confirmed the monarch’s death in a telephone conversation with our correspondent on Friday, speaking on condition of anonymity.

He died at his home in Ibadan after a short illness, the source said. The source added that a delegation from Omo Oye had already gone to the late chief’s home following the news of his passing.

Oba Isioye-Dada was Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, a prominent chieftaincy title in the traditional structure of the ancient city until his death.

His death is expected to throw up a chain of promotions within the Balogun line of the Ibadan chieftaincy system that will affect many chiefs and high chiefs, including the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship aspirant, Sharafadeen Ali.

According to the traditional succession structure and with the approval of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Senator Ali is expected to move up from the position of Ekaarun Balogun to Ekerin Balogun of Ibadanland.

Likewise, Oba Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin is also expected to ascend from Ekerin Balogun to the position of Asipa Balogun of Ibadanland in the ongoing process of succession.
