In the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the North Central geographical zone, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has started the Skill Acquisition Training for Veterans (SAT-V).
This demonstrates the DHQ’s dedication to enhancing the welfare and post-service well-being of retired members of the Nigerian Armed Forces by providing them with options for sustainable livelihood and vocational empowerment.
The Veterans Affairs Directorate of the DHQ organized the four-day course, which took place from July 14 to 17, 2026, at Headquarters 22 Brigade, Sobi Cantonment, Ilorin, Kwara State. It is a component of continuous initiatives to increase veterans’ economic independence and resilience nationwide.

General Olufemi Oluyede GCOR, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), announced the training’s opening, calling it a strategic investment in veterans’ welfare and a testament to the Armed Forces’ unwavering dedication to those who have devoted their life to Nigeria’s defense.
He pointed out that the program’s subject, “Enhancing Veterans’ Capacity Building through Sustained Skill Acquisition Training for Enhanced National Development,” emphasizes how crucial it is to position veterans as useful contributors to Nigeria’s socioeconomic development.
The CDS added that the program is consistent with his leadership philosophy, which emphasizes solid administration and better welfare as essential components. General Oluyede urged attendees to embrace the training’s practical knowledge and vocational skills in order to fully benefit from the opportunity.
He emphasized that the skills they would get would significantly advance national growth in addition to improving their own standard of living.
Director of Veterans Affairs, Major General OD Williams, represented the CDS at the inaugural ceremony.
The purpose of the SAT-V is to give veterans the technical and entrepreneurial abilities they need to start long-term companies and find other sources of income following active duty.
