A woman described by a media report as Nigeria’s Ebola index patient has reportedly been taken out of the country aboard a medical evacuation aircraft, although official confirmation of the operation remains unavailable in the reported account.
It was reported that the evacuation took place early Monday morning at the private jet wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The news outlet, citing sources, identified the passenger as the wife of a Swiss diplomat in Nigeria and said she was expected to depart at approximately 6 a.m.
According to the report, a medical evacuation aircraft was already at the airport ahead of the planned departure.
ARISE News said its crew at the airport’s General Aviation Terminal obtained photographs of ambulances arriving from Abuja’s city centre in a convoy accompanied by diplomatic vehicles.
The convoy reportedly comprised three vehicles, including one associated with an international agency. The vehicles were said to have entered the airport’s private jet section.
Airport officials reportedly cordoned off the private wing, limiting access while the operation was underway.

The report further stated that video footage obtained by the outlet showed a medical evacuation aircraft and its crew preparing to transport the passenger. The special arrangements prompted the outlet to suspect that the woman might be linked to an Ebola case.
A source quoted in the report allegedly said the Federal Government would announce the evacuation after the aircraft had taken off and left Nigerian airspace.
However, no confirmation of the woman’s identity, destination or current health condition was provided in the account.
An official statement from the Federal Government or relevant health authorities confirming the reported evacuation was also not included as of the time of filing.
Given the public health implications, any claim involving Ebola requires confirmation from appropriate health authorities. The reported movement of a passenger on a medical aircraft should not be interpreted as proof of a confirmed Ebola diagnosis or outbreak.
