The Nigerian Government has renewed efforts to address concerns over military veterans’ pensions, remuneration and welfare, with the Ministry of Defence engaging relevant authorities on a sustainable resolution of outstanding issues.
The position was conveyed during a meeting between representatives of military veterans and the Ministry of Defence at Ship House, Abuja, amid concerns over wage and pension adjustments.
According to a statement by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Henshaw Ogubike, the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Retired), represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Richard Pheelangwah, said the concerns raised by veterans were receiving urgent attention from relevant military, pension and financial authorities.
Musa said any adjustment to veterans’ entitlements must be properly computed, adequately funded and implemented in line with existing approvals, regulations and due process.

He said the approach was necessary to ensure sustainability and prevent unintended disparities in the implementation of the entitlements.
The Minister appealed to the veterans for calm and continued constructive engagement, assuring them that the Ministry would maintain dialogue with their representatives and provide updates as progress was made.
He also reaffirmed the Nigerian Government’s recognition of the sacrifices and service of military veterans, stressing that their welfare and legitimate entitlements remained a government priority.
