According to reports, Sani stated that Jonathan’s activities already demonstrated serious interest, even though the former president has not yet made a public declaration of his intention to run for office or specified the political platform he may employ.
Getting a nomination form was one of the first steps for any candidate, he said, adding that action was more important in politics than public declarations.
In politics, action is what matters. Obtaining nomination forms is one of the procedures you must adhere to if you are interested. He claimed to have done so.
Sani responded, “Yes and in fact, he is about to come and submit the forms publicly,” when questioned further about if Jonathan had really received the document.
Sani speculated that Jonathan’s cautious approach to the 2027 contest would have been influenced by the PDP’s internal strife.
Before making a public announcement, he suggested, the former president might be keeping an eye on party developments.
But the PDP leader argued that Jonathan’s silence wasn’t a sign of disinterest.
Jonathan has avoided direct partisan politics in recent years in favor of serving in diplomatic and mediating capacities both inside and outside of Africa.
Sani Says the Eligibility Suit Will Fail
Sani also said he was confident that the legal challenge to Jonathan’s eligibility to run for president again would be unsuccessful.
He maintained that the case could not be revived at the same level of court since it had already been resolved by earlier court rulings.
Sani stated, “We are very confident that the matter will be thrown out because you cannot relitigate something that has already been decided upon.”
He asserts that only the Supreme Court has the authority to reverse previous rulings regarding Jonathan’s eligibility.
He stated that the lawsuit that is currently pending before Justice Peter Lifu will probably be dismissed on May 26 due to lack of jurisdiction.
Claims that certain politicians were just utilizing Jonathan’s name to be relevant ahead of the 2027 elections were also denied by the former presidential assistant.
According to him, a lot of Nigerians still had vivid recollections of Jonathan’s administration and were now contrasting it with later ones.

According to Sani, Nigerians still have affection for the former president because they think he led the nation more effectively.
The rumors that Jonathan is getting ready for a significant political comeback have been stoked by his recent contacts with various political circles.
Remember, the previous president led Nigeria from 2010 to 2015 before former President Muhammadu Buhari defeated him for reelection.
He has mostly kept a low political profile after leaving power, taking part in diplomatic postings around Africa, peace missions, and election monitoring.
