If You Are Not Ready To Die, Go Home – Peter Obi Speaks Tough On Security Crisis

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, declared he is ready to die for the country.

Obi, it was reported, made the declaration in an interview aired by Nevon Media on Tuesday.

“We need one man to lead the security challenges facing the country.

“I said one person has to be in charge. We go to war. If you’re ready to live, you have to be ready to die. If you are not ready to die, go home,” he said.

Obi reiterated that he had no reason to hold the passport of any other countries.

I am ready to die for Nigeria.” It’s a country. “We cannot have non-state actors take over the state,” Obi said.

Meanwhile, Obi has said he would have removed the subsidy on petroleum products in an orderly manner if he was President of Nigeria.

Obi was reported to have said that while he supported the removal of the fuel subsidy, he would not have announced it on the day of his inauguration.

The former governor of Anambra State said this during an interview with Rufai Oseni, responding to claims that he criticised President Bola Tinubu for removing the fuel subsidy in 2023.

Tinubu had announced the removal of fuel subsidy at his inauguration as President.

Obi said his concern was not about the removal of subsidy per se but about the process adopted by the present administration.

“I did not criticize Tinubu over the removal of the subsidy. I said I would have taken it out, but in an ordered way. Obi said, “I wouldn’t have announced it at my inauguration.

He said he would have engaged operators and stakeholders in the petroleum sector before making such a major policy announcement.

“I would have gone to the operators in the industry first because we know there is a lot of criminality around the subsidy,” he added.

Obi said that any effective subsidy removal plan should be accompanied by a clear understanding of how much the country was spending on the scheme and strong action against corruption.

“I would remove it to see how much exactly is being spent on subsidy and also tackle the issue of exchange rate deregulation. “But the most important thing in doing these things is to fight corruption head on,” he said.

He said policy reforms must be implemented in a way that protects ordinary citizens, as the NDC candidate argued.
