The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced Engineer Kale Kawu as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

The announcement was made by former Senate President, Bukola Saraki on Saturday.

He said Kawu was a candidate of wide consultations with Kwara PDP stakeholders and other gubernatorial aspirants.

The former Governor of Kwara State said other aspirants withdrew and backed the consensus candidate.

“I am happy to announce that after extensive consultations with the stakeholders of the Kwara PDP and our leading gubernatorial aspirants, we have arrived at a consensus candidate to fly the flag of our great party in the upcoming gubernatorial election.

“That candidate is Engr. Kale Kawu.

“I am deeply grateful to the other aspirants who have generously stepped down to support this consensus in the supreme interest of our party and state. This spirit of unity and self-sacrifice will carry us to victory.

“I wish all our members, delegates and teaming supporters a successful, peaceful and orderly outing at tomorrow’s gubernatorial primaries,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, led by Kabiru Turaki has dismissed claims that it stopped presidential aspirants from getting nomination forms ahead of the party’s presidential primary election.

The faction’s spokesman, Ini Ememobong, in a statement Thursday described the report as untrue and baseless.

“There was no party directive to any official to stop aspirants from joining the process,” he said.

He said the Interim National Working Committee (NWC) was not aware of any move by party officials to stop interested contenders from buying the nomination forms.
