The Kebbi State Hisbah Board has said its operatives have arrested a young man and a young woman in Filin Idi, Birnin Kebbi, for allegedly engaging in immoral acts.
The agency in a statement by the Board’s Director of Shariah, Sirajo Kamba, said seven suspected drug users were arrested during the raid while other suspects escaped by jumping over a fence.
They were arrested on May 20 in the Filin Idi area of Birnin Kebbi, the statement said, for alleged immoral conduct contrary to Islamic teachings and moral values of the society.
The board also raided a house in Gesse Phase 2, Birnin Kebbi where it found seven women and two young men. It said some suspects escaped by jumping over the fence.
The statement said the suspects were alleged to have been involved in drug abuse and other immoral activities.
The board further revealed that the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) arrested 23 non-Nigerians roaming without any meaningful engagement and handed them over to the Hisbah Board for further investigation.
“During their routine patrols and checks, that are meant to identify illegal immigrants and non-citizens, Officers of the Immigration Service encountered a number of young men and women wandering under suspicious and indecent circumstances,” the statement said.
It said a total of 23 persons were later handed over to the Hisbah Board for further investigation and necessary action.
“The Hisbah Board is presently investigating all the cases,” the director stated.
