MOSES OLAREWAJU BIDS WIFE FAREWELL AT CANARY WORLD, FESTAC TOWN

APC House of Representatives Candidate for Amuwo-Odofin Vows to Uphold Late Wife’s Legacy of Hard Work, Integrity and Love for the Masses

FESTAC TOWN, LAGOS | FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2026

MAMMOTH CROWD GATHERS AS POLITICAL, PROFESSIONAL AND COMMUNITY LEADERS HONOUR MRS. HELEN ENOBONG OLAREWAJU

In an atmosphere of profound grief, love and solemn remembrance, Hon. Moses Olarewaju, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency House of Representatives seat, today bid a heartfelt farewell to his beloved wife, the late Mrs. Helen Enobong Olarewaju, at Canary World Event Centre, 23 Road, Festac Town, Lagos.

The solemn occasion, which attracted a mammoth crowd of political leaders, professionals, community stakeholders, family members, colleagues, neighbours and well-wishers, became a powerful demonstration of unity, compassion and solidarity with the Olarewaju family.

For a few solemn hours, political affiliations and differences gave way to a shared expression of humanity as people from different walks of life gathered to honour the memory of a woman whose passing has touched numerous communities.

The breadth of attendance at the wake and Service of Songs underscored the relationships Mrs. Olarewaju built throughout her lifetime and the profound sense of loss experienced by those who knew her.

A COMMUNITY UNITED IN GRIEF

The gathering brought together prominent political figures and community leaders from across Lagos State and beyond.

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, was represented at the occasion, while a Deputy Speaker from Akwa Ibom State was among the dignitaries present.

Past and serving chairmen of Amuwo-Odofin and Oriade councils joined the leadership of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government, APC leaders and members, and representatives of various political and campaign organisations in honouring the deceased.

Also represented were professional and community organisations, including a delegation from Leadway Assurance, where the late Mrs. Olarewaju had professional connections; her alumni communities from Command School and university; and members of the Akwa Ibom community, reflecting her roots and connections beyond Festac Town.

Other groups that identified with the family included the National Association of Transport and Automobile stakeholders (NATA), Amuwo-Odofin Market Women Association, Festac Town Residents Association (FTRA), AOLA Residents Association and other community groups.

Their collective presence reflected the many relationships Mrs. Olarewaju cultivated and the communities in which her memory will endure.

Beyond the political prominence of those in attendance, the gathering demonstrated the strength of the human bonds that unite families, colleagues, neighbours and communities in times of loss.

OLAREWAJU: HER LEGACY WILL INSPIRE ME TO SERVE THE PEOPLE WITH ALL MY HEART

In his emotional tribute, Hon. Moses Olarewaju reflected on his late wife’s enduring virtues of hard work, integrity, compassion and love for the masses, describing them as values that would continue to inspire his personal life and commitment to public service.

He affirmed that although her physical presence would be profoundly missed, the principles she embodied would remain a guiding light throughout his journey.

“Her legacies of hard work, integrity and love for the masses will inspire me even more to serve the people with all my heart. I will continue to honour her memory by upholding the values she cherished and dedicating myself to the service of humanity,” he said.

For Olarewaju, the loss transcends the pain of personal bereavement. It is the loss of a cherished companion whose values and humanity helped shape his understanding of responsibility, sacrifice and service to others.

He maintained that the true measure of a person’s legacy lies not merely in personal achievements but also in the lives touched, the values upheld and the good deeds that endure long after their departure.

As he continues his political journey, he says the memory of his late wife will reinforce his commitment to people-centred leadership, compassion, accountability and the welfare of ordinary citizens.

PASTOR KALEJAIYE DELIVERS SOBERING MESSAGE ON THE TRANSIENCE OF LIFE

Delivering the spiritual message at the gathering, Pastor J.T. Kalejaiye reminded mourners of the inevitable reality of mortality, emphasising that irrespective of status, wealth, accomplishments or earthly pursuits, everyone must one day depart this world.

He urged those present to reflect on the deeper meaning of life and the importance of prioritising values that transcend material possessions and temporary achievements.

His message found resonance in the words of Scripture:

“Vanity of vanities; all is vanity.” — Ecclesiastes 1:2.

The message offered an opportunity for reflection, reminding the gathering that the enduring significance of life lies in the values people uphold, the love they share and the positive impact they make on others.

For the Olarewaju family, the spiritual reflections provided a moment to contemplate the painful reality of loss while drawing strength from faith, fellowship and the support of those around them.

OLAREWAJU EXPRESSES GRATITUDE TO TINUBU, SANWO-OLU, HAMZAT AND APC LEADERS

Overwhelmed by the outpouring of solidarity extended to his family, Olarewaju expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu; and the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat.

He equally acknowledged the APC governorship candidate and members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), ably represented at the occasion by Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, for their support and solidarity.

Olarewaju also expressed gratitude to the Executive Chairman of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government, Prince Lanre Sanusi, and the former Chairman of Oriade Local Government, Chief Mrs. Ramotali Akinola-Hassan.

He extended his appreciation to all apex leaders of Amuwo-Odofin LGA and Oriade LCDA, all councillors across the two councils, APC executives at every level, party members and supporters who stood with his family during this difficult period.

The APC candidate further acknowledged the contributions of the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), market leaders, residents’ associations, political groups and community stakeholders who demonstrated their support through their presence, prayers, condolence messages and other gestures of kindness.

His appreciation also extended to his late wife’s family, her professional colleagues, alumni associations, neighbours, staff of Amuwo-Odofin Local Council and all well-wishers who offered comfort and encouragement.

He noted that every expression of sympathy, however small, had provided meaningful comfort to the family.

A LOVE THAT TRANSCENDS POLITICS

One of the most striking features of the gathering was the diversity of those who came to honour Mrs. Olarewaju.

From political leaders and public officials to professional colleagues, alumni, market women, residents’ associations and members of the Akwa Ibom community, the gathering reflected the many dimensions of a life connected to different people and institutions.

Their presence reinforced the understanding that the loss of a loved one extends beyond the immediate family, touching colleagues, friends and communities whose lives have been enriched by that person’s presence.

For Hon. Moses Olarewaju, the support of these different groups offered a measure of comfort at a time when no crowd, however large, could replace the wife, companion and loved one he had lost.

Yet, in their presence, the family found an unmistakable assurance that they were not alone in their grief.

A LEGACY THAT WILL CONTINUE TO INSPIRE SERVICE

As the farewell to Mrs. Helen Enobong Olarewaju continues, her legacy remains a testament to the enduring values of love, integrity, hard work and compassion.

For her husband, the challenge ahead is to carry the memory of their shared life while drawing inspiration from the principles she cherished.

He has reiterated his determination to honour her by living out those values and dedicating himself to serving humanity with sincerity, humility and an unwavering sense of responsibility.

His message to the people of Amuwo-Odofin is that public service must remain rooted in genuine concern for people, particularly those whose hopes and aspirations depend on responsible leadership.

Ultimately, the farewell at Canary World Event Centre was more than a solemn gathering to mourn a departed wife. It was a celebration of a life, a demonstration of community solidarity and a reminder of the enduring influence of love and good character.

Long after the hymns have faded and the gathering has dispersed, the memory of Mrs. Helen Enobong Olarewaju will remain with her family, friends, colleagues and the communities that came together to honour her.

For Moses Olarewaju, her absence will remain deeply felt, but her values will continue to inspire him.

As he bids farewell to his beloved wife, he renews his commitment to honouring her legacy by serving the people with integrity, compassion, hard work and all his heart.

May the soul of Mrs. Helen Enobong Olarewaju rest in perfect peace, and may God grant the entire Olarewaju family the strength to bear this irreparable loss.
