A legal practitioner, Frank Tie-Tie, says Nigeria’s anti-graft agencies may not have done their work well during the trial of former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.
Tie-Tie stated this on Wednesday in an interview programme on Arise Television shortly after Alison-Madueke was acquitted.
Reports have it that the United Kingdom Court on Wednesday cleared Alison-Madueke, of all charged levelled against her.
Ventilating his opinion, Tie-Tie said “the former minister’s lavish life does not mean bribery. She won her case and a wide range of factors were taken into consideration, which is why the prosecution ultimately failed.
“Maybe something went wrong in the process and our anti-corruption agencies, prosecutors and investigators did not do their jobs properly.
Here in Nigeria, back home, many Nigerians believe that she should be crucified, because she had already been found guilty, all the assets that were seized from her and all of that, but we forget that this is a criminal trial.
“The Crown Court jury didn’t believe that the prosecution proved all of those elements of the offenses against her. They did not think they had been proven beyond reasonable doubt.”
