The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has the ability to work out its problems, according to Nentawe Yilwatda, the party’s chairman.
Yilwatda’s remarks are made in the middle of the APC’s continuing primary controversies.
Speaking to reporters following his meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Lagos on Wednesday, he said that the APC’s popularity throughout Nigeria has made the party’s primaries the most contested in the nation’s history.
The APC Chairman expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and members nationwide for their support while claiming that the primaries were generally peaceful and free of rancour.
“I also want to thank our supporters for approaching these procedures with discipline. There aren’t many complaints, it’s well-organized, and it’s almost rancour-free. People frequently grumble about election procedures, yet they’re almost flawless, he said.
He stated, “Our guidelines on consensus are clear,” in response to the disputes and issues surrounding the consensus arrangements in several states. Our immediate primary policies are likewise quite clear. When reaching a consensus fails, direct primaries are used. People are acting in this manner throughout the states.
Yilwatda added that the party has internal procedures in place to deal with disagreements that arise after the election.
“There will undoubtedly be some disgruntled party members following this primary process. Our internal dispute resolution process has worked well over time.
The Presidential Conflict Resolution Committee is one of our resources. The Committee for the Resolution of Party Conflicts exists. He stated, “The party itself has been trying to lessen the crisis; we manage people as much as we can.”
Additionally, he stated, “The President was very impressed with the tactics and logistics we’ve used across the country.” Additionally, he is quite impressed with how few incidents we have nationwide. He finds our work satisfactory.
The chairman described the exercise as a logistical success and praised members for their discipline, which resulted in “limited conflicts” during the process. He also said that the nationwide deployment of direct primaries this cycle was a significant step and indicated improvements in the party’s organizational capacity.
