‘I don’t feel safe where I live’ – BBNaija’s Mercedes cries out to Don Jazzy for accommodation

Former Big Brother Naija contestant Ijeoma Emi, popularly known as Mercedes, has appealed to Don Jazzy for housing assistance, saying a suitable home would help her regain stability and pursue her career ambitions.

In an emotional message shared on social media, the 26-year-old entrepreneur and performance artist explained that she has struggled to establish herself since leaving the reality television programme.

Mercedes said people sometimes assume that contestants who gain public attention through Big Brother Naija automatically become financially successful. However, she explained that her experience has involved continued efforts to rebuild her life and find her footing.

She disclosed that she does not always feel safe or comfortable in her current residence and believes that having her own place would improve her sense of security and independence.

The former housemate also explained how her accommodation has affected her work as a content creator and pole dancer.

According to Mercedes, the ceiling in her current home cannot accommodate the installation of a pole indoors. She has therefore been practising on the balcony, where weather conditions often disrupt her training.

She said the lack of a suitable indoor space has made it difficult to maintain a consistent routine and develop her skills.

A new apartment, she explained, would allow her to install her equipment safely, practise regularly and produce content that could help advance her career.

In her appeal, Mercedes told Don Jazzy that she was not seeking luxury but an opportunity to become self-reliant and create a better environment for herself.

She acknowledged that the music executive receives many requests for help but expressed hope that he would consider supporting her efforts to secure accommodation.

Her message has attracted attention from fans, many of whom have called for assistance for the former housemate.

The appeal highlights the difficulties some young entertainers face when trying to turn public exposure into a stable livelihood. While reality television can introduce contestants to new audiences, it does not necessarily guarantee regular earnings or secure accommodation.

Mercedes’ situation also demonstrates how housing can affect professional development, particularly for performers whose work requires specialised equipment and adequate practice space.

She hopes that securing a home of her own will allow her to concentrate on her craft, create content more consistently and build a more stable future.
