Marriage doesn’t make women desperate — Juliana Olayode

Nollywood actress Juliana Olayode has urged society to stop shaming women who express a desire to get married.

The actress shared her position on Instagram, stressing that women should be allowed to make personal decisions about their lives without being labelled or judged.

According to Olayode, a woman who is satisfied with being single deserves the same respect as another woman who hopes to become a wife.

She rejected the suggestion that women who desire marriage are automatically desperate or lack ambition.

The actress said being excited about marriage does not cancel a woman’s achievements, career goals or personal purpose.

“Wanting to get married is not a personality disorder,” she said.

Olayode admitted that marriage has its challenges and that some unions end badly. However, she noted that many people continue to regard marriage as a beautiful relationship and sincerely hope to experience it.

She also shared an experience involving a conversation she overheard at a salon. According to her, some women were criticising another woman because she had expressed her wish to get married.

Olayode said she joined the discussion before later laughing about the situation after recalling a “BRIDE” swimsuit given to her by a friend in 2024.

The actress argued that people should respect different life choices.

She said women can aspire to faith, purpose, career advancement, financial stability, friendship, family and marriage.

Olayode concluded by wishing women who want to marry the opportunity to meet good partners and enjoy fulfilling unions.
