PRP Aspirant Reacts To Growing Calls For Tinubu To Step Down

Presidential aspirant of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in the 2027 general elections, Yakubu Mohammed Kingsley, has dissociated himself from the party’s National Chairman, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed over the latter’s call for President Bola Tinubu to resign over the country’s security challenges.

It was claimed that Kingsley said Nigerian democracy has constitutional processes for leadership succession and called on Nigerians to focus on the 2027 general elections.

In a statement made Sunday in Abuja titled “A Message of Hope to the Nigerian People: Nigeria Shall Rise Again,” Kingsley stated he did not endorse calls for the President to resign.

“I do not subscribe to the call for the resignation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. “Democracy in Nigeria guarantees constitutional processes for leadership transition and we must focus on building our institutions and preparing for the 2027 General Elections,” he stated.

The PRP chieftain, who is disputing in court the outcome of the party’s May 25 presidential primary that produced former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke as the party’s presidential candidate, decried the worsening economic and security situation in the country.

“Every day families are struggling to make ends meet. Businesses are being forced to close because of growing operational costs. The insecurity prevents farmers from safely cultivating many of our fertile land. He noted that young graduates, although having huge talents and aspirations, continue to look for meaningful jobs.

Kingsley said his upbringing and professional expertise have equipped him to deal with the issues of development in Nigeria.

I know adversity as someone born in a modest home in Auchi, Edo State. I used to sell pap to feed my family before I could go to school. “Those experiences forged my lifelong commitment to creating opportunities for ordinary Nigerians,” he stated.

His 25 years in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, he said, had convinced him that the biggest challenge facing Nigeria was leadership.

Those experiences taught me that Nigeria’s biggest problem has never been lack of resources but the need for visionary leadership, institutional discipline and consistent implementation,” he said.
