Nigerian singer Davido has urged citizens and political leaders to work towards transforming the country, lamenting persistent governance challenges, injustice and the economic struggles facing millions of Nigerians.

The music star made the appeal during an episode of the I Wanna Talk podcast, where he discussed his experience of the EndSARS protests and his expectations for Nigeria’s future.

Davido said he had been hopeful that the protests would produce lasting change, particularly because of the determination displayed by Nigerians demanding accountability and an end to police brutality.

However, he admitted that his optimism diminished when the momentum appeared to decline and public attention shifted towards other activities.

The singer explained that he eventually became discouraged, acknowledging that people had families and responsibilities and could not remain exposed to danger indefinitely.

Speaking about economic hardship, Davido said he was reluctant to advise Nigerians facing serious financial difficulties because his privileged background meant he did not experience their circumstances in the same way.

He acknowledged having personal struggles but insisted that he could not speak as though he fully understood the daily realities of people battling economic pressure.

The singer also revealed that being wealthy and influential does not eliminate his fear of losing his life.

He called for urgent improvements in Nigeria, stressing that the responsibility for change should not rest on politicians alone.

“ What I can say is, Nigeria, fix up. The country has to change from politicians to citizens, everything,” he stated.

Davido further argued that national development would remain difficult unless Nigerians reconsidered their collective attitudes and behaviour.

He expressed disappointment that some people who previously protested against poor governance now support politicians, describing the situation as an indication that the country needs a deeper cultural and political transformation.

According to him, genuine change requires citizens to remain committed to accountability rather than abandoning their principles when political opportunities arise.

His comments have renewed attention to the challenges of sustaining public movements and translating demands for reform into long-term improvements in governance.
